Obituary: Taylor, Clara

Age 95

TAYLOR, Clara (Age 95) Of Newport, WA went home to her Lord to join her husband Henry on December 11, 2013 while a resident at the Colonial Court Assisted Living facility in Spokane Valley, WA.

She had been living there since Henry’s passing on October 13, 2013 Clara was born on April 10, 1918 in Emerado, ND the daughter of Fred and Lena Holweger.

Clara grew up in Emerado and in the spring of 1940 she began dating Henry Taylor, while he was a bell hop at the Frederick Hotel in Grand Forks and on November 2, 1940 they were married in Grand Forks.

Clara worked most of the time in a bakery environment in several locations including Grand Forks, Great Falls and then in Spokane, WA where she retired in 1981.

Following their retirements Clara and Henry spent most of their winters at Sierra Del Saguaro Mobile Home Park in Apache Junction, AZ.

While in Arizona she became proficient in wood carving, basket weaving, oil painting and other craft activities while saving the summers for good times in their home west of Newport on the Pend Oreille River (Yergens Road) where they had lived since moving from Spokane in 1992.

She was preceded in death by her husband Henry in October this year and son Lyle in 1993 and three sisters and seven brothers.

Clara is survived by one brother, Milton Holweger of Grand Forks, ND and her son Allen Taylor and wife Jeanne (Johnson) of Spokane Valley and daughter Louise Lehman and husband E. Stanley of Apache Junction, AZ.

She was blessed with seven grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and 15 great-great-grandchildren.

A Funeral Service will be held at the American Lutheran Church in Newport on Saturday, December 21 at 11 AM followed by light lunch at the church.

Interment will be at Greenwood Memorial Terrace in Spokane following lunch (weather permitting).

There will be a visitation on Friday, December 20 from Noon to 4 pm at the Sherman-Knapp Funeral Home in Newport.
