Woman sentenced for fatal Tacoma beating

TACOMA – A 33-year-old woman convicted for her role in the murder of a Lakewood man who was beaten, robbed and strangled before being dumped outside a Graham house was sentenced Friday to 17 years in prison.

The Tacoma News Tribune reported that Angela King previously pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in the death of 51-year-old Dean Barker.

Charging documents say Barker died late Sept. 7 or early Sept. 8, 2012, after a group of people angry with him confronted him at a Tacoma home.

Prosecutors say King had spread rumors that Barker had attempted to sexually assault her, and others in the group thought he had something to do with the temporary disappearance of a young girl.

Eight people in all were charged with crimes related to Barker’s death. Five have been convicted. The others go on trial in 2014.
