Photo: Many happy returns

Coming in for a landing: Snow geese look for a spot to set down in a farmer’s field on the north side of Fir Island in Skagit Valley on Saturday. The birds are returning to the Skagit Valley and North Puget Sound from their breeding grounds on Siberia’s Wrangel Island and mainland Siberia. This field has an estimated 3,000 geese. (Alan Berner)
