Fire burns warehouse near railway

Spokane firefighters extinguished a blaze at a warehouse off East Trent Avenue on Monday afternoon where flammable gas cylinders could be heard exploding within. The Spokane Fire Department responded to the call of a commercial fire at 2627 E. Trent Ave. around 2:45 p.m. Monday, according to the release. The structure is near the railroad tracks that wind through town, and initial reports indicated live wires might be on the lines. Machinery inside the warehouse and sounds of exploding gas cylinders kept firefighters from entering the building, instead attacking the fire from outside. No injuries were reported in the incident. The Fire Department reported damages of $100,000 from the blaze from heat and smoke damage to the inside of the warehouse and equipment within, according to the news release. The cause of the fire is under investigation, but department officials do not suspect foul play.
