‘Les Miserables’ at The Fox pairs Spokane Symphony, Civic Theatre

Spokane Civic Theatre and the Spokane Symphony will team up for the first time in March to stage Civic’s production of “Les Miserables” on the stage at the Martin Woldson Theater at The Fox.

Resident conductor Morihiko Nakahara will lead the full symphony during the two performances, March 1 and 2.

Much of the Civic cast will reprise their roles, including Jim Swoboda as Jean Valjean, said Civic’s managing director Jim Humes at a news conference Tuesday.

Civic opened “Les Miz” in September and it quickly sold out, Humes said. An added weekend still didn’t satiate demand.

“The community was extraordinarily impressed by the caliber of Civic’s ‘Les Miz’ performances this fall,” said Brenda Nienhouse, the symphony’s executive director. “The symphony and The Fox are excited to join with Civic to bring Spokane audiences an enhanced experience with our full symphony and the fabulous ambiance of this historic theater.”

The two-day run certainly will allow more people to see “Les Miz.”

The Fox seats 1,600, while Civic seats 339.

Tickets are on sale at noon today through the symphony box office, (509) 624-1200; Civic’s box office, (509) 325-2507; or through any TicketsWest outlet. Prices range from $40 to $125.

The run will feature one Saturday evening performance and one Sunday matinee.
