Limbaugh clarified

In response to Joe Speranzi’s Dec. 12 letter, I wish to correct the record on what Rush Limbaugh said about the pope’s comments on free markets. Limbaugh rightly pointed out that without capitalism (free markets), the Catholic Church would not exist; nor would charity. He mentioned that no other system has done more to lift people out of poverty.

There is no place on Earth where capitalism is “unfettered,” but to the extent it is allowed to flourish, everyone is better off. Even the church benefits from being a major landowner in Manhattan and collecting rents. If Speranzi has better ideas, I would like to hear them.
