Obituary: Redding, Ralph A.
Age 82
Our family lost a treasure that day and will never be able to fill the hole left by his departure.
Ralph was born August 17, 1931 to Fred and Rosa Redding in Turtleford Saskatchewan.
At an early age the family moved to Grand Forks British Columbia and then on to Trail British Columbia.
Ralph was blessed with carpentry skills second to none and at the age of sixteen he began his apprenticeship at Cominco.
Trail was also where Ralph met and married the love of his life Jean (Gina) Monaldi.
Ralph and Jean spent 60 beautiful years together, having just celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary November 14th, 2013.
In 1956 Ralph and Jean moved to Spokane where Ralph continued his work as a carpenter with various companies in town.
There truly was not a worker like him.
Through his unparalleled hard work and an aptitude for business, he started a construction company in 1960, R&R Builders, with partner Chuck Ralph.
In 1965 he set out on his own and incorporated R. Redding Construction, Co., Inc., which he owned and operated for the next 35 years until retiring in 1999.
The company built many large projects throughout the years not only in Spokane but also throughout the States of Washington, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, and Nevada.
Ralph was a wonderfully generous man who built his business through care, tireless enthusiasm, and an unsurpassed leadership by example.
He employed thousands of different people over his years in business and never took for granted the hard work any of them put in to help make the company a success.
He loved his work and truly appreciated all of the men and women who were part of it.
As written in a recent newspaper article, Ralph was also very active in youth and junior hockey for many years as a strong supporter for all who wished to play.
Over the last number of years he would be seen at every game played by his grandsons in both youth hockey, at Eastern Washington University and on the local Junior Braves, the team he founded 41 years ago in 1972.
Ralph was preceded in death by his parents Fred and Rosa, sisters Helen and Marie, and brothers Herbert, Fred, and Clarence.
Ralph is survived by his wife Jean; son Donald (Debby); daughter Sandra (Randy); and son Gary (Marina); sisters Rose Green, Ioline (Lew) Dempsey, and Doreen Malinowski.
Ralph is also survived by nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Ralph led a full and wonderful life and he loved and cared for all of his family more than words can ever say; we’re sure he left with no regrets as he joins God and his family in heaven.
We will miss him terribly, but will in time, find comfort in the lifetime of love, care, and memories he gave us all.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, December 20, 2013 at 10:00 AM at St. Charles Catholic Church.
