Obituary: Curry, Geraldine N.W., R.N., B.S.N.
Age 84
May 3, 1929 - December 10, 2013 Geraldine “Jere” Curry went gently to rest on December 10, 2013, at her home in Coeur d’Alene.
She was 84 years old.
She was born in Chicago, Illinois on May 3, 1929, to Harley and Helen Westphal, growing up through the Great Depression and graduating from Nicholas Senn High School in 1947.
She matriculated at MacMurry college in Illinois and moved to Cedar Rapids, Iowa, where, in April 1950, she married Lawrence Bernard Curry of Urbana, Illinois.
Jere and Larry raised five children together in Cedar Rapids, Salem, Oregon, and in Mountain Home, Coeur d’Alene, Post Falls, and Shoshone Idaho.
As the wife of a career Army officer, it was hers to keep the family together during her husband’s frequent absences.
Jere was a sterling example for her children and her many friends.
She worked briefly as a school secretary in Coeur d’Alene before embarking on her nursing career, earning her degree at Lewis-Clark State College, and teaching in that field at Shawnee College in Illinois and at the College of Southern Idaho in Twin Falls.
She volunteered for public service with the American Red Cross and the Medical Reserve Corps of Southern Idaho, participating in disaster relief in St. Thomas and Orofino, Idaho.
After retirement she and her husband traveled in the U.S., China, and Japan.
She was always ready for the next adventure and remained young every day of her life.
She is survived by daughters, Ami and Alyssa; and sons, Timothy and Terence.
Preceded in death by her husband; and beloved son Thomas; and grandson Ian.
Her loving children wish to express their deepest gratitude for the love and support of her friends and for every single day of a life well-lived.
Memorial Services will be held at 3:30 pm, Thursday, December 19, 2013 at Yates Funeral Home Coeur d’Alene Chapel.
