Obituary: Kolkman, Ron

Age 70

KOLKMAN, Ron Passed away on December 18, 2013, in Tooele, UT.

He was born on January 13, 1943, in Seattle, WA to Leonard and Vera Kolkman.

As a life-long resident of Spokane, he graduated John Rogers High School.

After high school, he worked at Eastern State Hospital as a Hospital Attendant and worked his way through college and graduated Spokane Falls Community College with a B.S.

in nursing.

Ron became an R.N.

at Eastern State Hospital and was later promoted to Therapy Supervisor, where he assisted in the development of the Hospital’s Legal Offender Unit.

Ron became a Realtor and sold real estate for 14 years.

In 1996, he returned to nursing at the Spokane VA on the Psychiatric Unit, and he retired in 2008.

Ron was a loving and devoted father and husband.

He coached youth baseball and adult softball.

He enjoyed classic cars, and he was an avid movie buff.

He enjoyed watching Seahawks football and Gonzaga basketball with family.

In his spare time, he enjoyed remodeling houses and remodeled over 60 homes during his lifetime, teaching his children and grandchildren along the way.

Ron enjoyed playing cards and was a duplicate bridge player and member of the Spokane Bridge Club.

He enjoyed taking vacations with his family to Nevada to play blackjack in the casinos.

He had the greatest sense of humor and enjoyed time around close family the most.

Ron is survived by his wife, BJ of 37 years, his son, Marty Kolkman (Mary), and daughter, Tracy Kolkman, and step-sons John Altman (Peggy) and Jim Altman (Alesia), and step-daughter Vicki Moyer (Rex).

He is also survived by eight grandsons.

His loving children wish to express thanks for the loving time we all had to share with him.

Memorial Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, December 22, 2013, at Hennessey Smith Funeral Home, 2203 North Division.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made the 2nd Harvest Food Bank.
