CC Spokane men fall to Lane at tournament

Zach Kirschbaum scored 19 points and grabbed eight rebounds as Lane rallied in the second half to defeat the Community Colleges of Spokane men’s basketball team 70-69 in the semifinals of the NWAACC Crossover Tournament in Everett.

The Titans (7-3) caught fire in the second half – making 51.4 percent of their field goals – and erased a six-point halftime deficit.

Kwinn Hanson scored 18 points and grabbed 11 rebounds and Dean Richey added 15 points and nine boards for the Sasquatch (8-4).

CCS will play Whatcom this afternoon for third place. Whatcom (7-1) fell 78-69 to Clark (6-1).

Women

Fallon Lewis made 5 of 8 3-pointers and finished with 23 points and 11 rebounds as Wyoming took advantage of Idaho’s early struggles and beat the Vandals 72-64 in a nonconference game in Moscow, Idaho.

The Cowgirls (9-2) led by 13 points at halftime and extended their lead to 17 early in the second half.

Alyssa Charlston scored 22 points, Christina Salvatore added 15 and Ali Forde pulled down 12 rebounds to guide Idaho (7-6).

• McKenzi Benedict scored 25 points on 11-of-14 shooting and grabbed 10 rebounds to guide Chemeketa past Community Colleges of Spokane 65-62 at the NWAACC Crossover tournament in Yakima.

An early run in the second half put the Storm (7-4) on top for good.

Riley Holsinger scored a game-high 28 points and Bianca Gonzales added 12 for the Sasquatch (5-4).

CCS will play Grays Harbor today for third place. Grays Harbor fell 73-44 to Skagit Valley.

• Jazmine Davis scored 19 of her game-high 30 points in the second half as Washington (6-4) clipped Pittsburgh 76-69 at the Duel in the Desert in Las Vegas.

Davis made 8 of 16 shots from the floor and 11 of 12 free throws. The Huskies’ Kelsey Plum chipped in 19 points and Aminah Williams pulled down 14 rebounds.

Asia Logan had 19 points and nine rebounds for the Panthers (7-6).

Davis was named to the all-tournament team after scoring 70 points in three games. Washington went 2-1.
