Clark wins to make fourth U.S. Olympic team

COPPER MOUNTAIN, Colo. – Snowboarder Kelly Clark secured her fourth trip to the Olympics on Saturday night by winning the U.S. Grand Prix halfpipe contest.

Clark, the 2002 Olympic gold medalist, was fighting a stomach virus all day but came out and scored a 98 – two points shy of a perfect score – on her second run to defeat American Arielle Gold by a margin of more than six points.

Gold’s brother, Taylor, captured the men’s event and Greg Bretz finished second, adding to his victory last week at the Dew Tour.

Shaun White did not participate, choosing to focus on today’s slopestyle contest while he continues to rehabilitate his sore left ankle.

Clark also won the bronze at the Vancouver Games in 2010.
