In brief: Officials identify victim of I-90 crash

From Staff And Wire Reports

The Washington State Patrol identified the woman killed in Friday’s 10-vehicle collision east of Ritzville as 52-year-old Jean B. Amidon.

Amidon, who was from Whitefish, Mont., died at the scene Friday after she rear-ended a tractor-trailer rig stopped for collisions on westbound Interstate 90, according to a WSP news release. She was then struck by a third vehicle in a chain reaction that resulted in a pileup 7 miles east of Ritzville on I-90. Excessive speed for the snowy conditions was a factor in the crash, according to the WSP.

Of the 11 people involved in the crash, four were injured and transported to East Adams Rural Hospital. Eight of the vehicles were towed from the scene.

The accident, which occurred at 12:46 p.m., blocked westbound I-90 for more than 12 hours, according to the release. Emergency crews cleared the scene shortly after midnight Saturday morning.
