LOS ANGELES – Josh Greene scored five of his 17 points in the final 56 seconds as Cal State Northridge held off Idaho for a 79-69 victory Sunday night.
Glen Dean scored eight of his 10 points during a 12-2 spurt by Idaho (6-7), which was capped by a Stephen Madison dunk and gave the Vandals a 63-61 lead.
Cal State Northridge (7-5), however, closed the game with an 18-6 run, making 12 of 14 free throws in the final 4:21.
Cal State Northridge led 35-31 at halftime.
The Matadors outrebounded Idaho 47-33 and limited the Vandals to 39.1 percent on 25-of-64 shooting.
Stephan Hicks scored 20 points and grabbed nine rebounds in the win. Stephen Maxwell added 15 points and 11 rebounds and Tre Hale-Edmerson finished with 13 rebounds, five assists and three blocked shots.
Madison paced Idaho with 17 points and eight rebounds. Connor Hill scored 12 and Sekou Wiggs 11.
The Vandals have played nine out of their last 10 games away from home.
Beginning Saturday against Montana, they begin a three-game homestand that also includes matchups with Missouri-Kansas City and Chicago State.
The Vandals lost to Montana 69-58 in Missoula on Dec. 11.
