Obituary: Potts, Col. Robert E.

POTTS, Col. Robert E. “Bob” U.S. Army, Ret.

October 9, 1941 - December 21, 2013 Bob passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by family, after an extended battle with cancer.

Born in Spokane WA on October 9, 1941.

Bob was the eldest of five children born to Harold B. and Margaret B. Potts.

He grew up attending local schools and graduated in 1959 from Lewis and Clark High School.

He graduated from Washington State University in 1964 and was an active member of the Phi Gamma Delta fraternity during his college years.

At graduation he was commissioned as a 2nd Lt in the U.S. Army and began a twenty-seven year military career.

He served in several overseas locations during his army career including Vietnam, Greece, Germany and Jordan, in addition to numerous stateside bases and schools.

Post retirement Bob spent his time in the woodshop and became quite the accomplished carpenter.

He and Kathi travelled and found two special spots that they visited several times: the Oregon Coast and Williamsburg, VA.

He stayed active and fit with yoga and mindfulness; taking classes several times a week.

Bob is survived by his devoted wife of 36 years, Kathi; his children Robert E Potts Jr. (Julia), Daniel W Potts (Jennifer), Jeffrey J Potts (Pamela), James H Potts, Malisa Eaton (Tony) Bryant Nedeau; his grandchildren Robert E III, Daniel M, Alexandra, Caitlin, Ronan and Ashley Potts, Justin and Lilyanne Eaton and Christopher, Kyle, Allison and Abigail Nedeau; his siblings, Margaret Potts of Tigard OR, Harriet Brakke of Spokane WA, Ted Potts of Spokane WA and Richard Potts of Moscow ID.

His parents predeceased him.

The family will receive friends at the Money and King Funeral Home 171 West Maple Ave., Vienna, VA on Friday December 27th from 2-4 and 6-8 pm.

Services will be held at the same location on Saturday, December 28th at 10 am.

Interment will be at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
