Obituary: Masiello, Helen

MASIELLO, Helen Helen was born on February 28, 1920 in Bronx, New York.

She met Gerard Masiello while still in high school on a blind date and, as they both used to say, “That was it!”

They married a few years later and after giving birth to their first daughter, Margie, they moved to Los Angeles, California.

Helen and Gerard had three additional children, Geraldine, Barbara and George while living in Whittier, California.

She was active in her community as a troupe leader for the Girl Scouts of America, a volunteer in her children’s schools and a docent for the Whittier Museum.

Helen especially enjoyed playing Bridge with her friends and the numerous parties that accompanied their weekends.

She took great pleasure in dining at the great variety of restaurants LA had to offer, especially when it came to Mexican food and the Dal Rae Steakhouse.

She and her husband were enthusiastic supporters of the arts and would often fill their Sunday afternoons with musicals, plays and film festivals.

On November 27, 2013, Gerard and Helen celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary.

She is survived by her handsome husband, their three children, nine grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her oldest daughter, Margie.

Services will be held at Bishop White Seminary located at 429 E. Sharp at 2:00pm Friday, December 27, 2013.
