Dragons clip Greyhounds

The small school got the best of the big school Friday in a battle of defending state champions.

Will Tender scored 20 of his game-high 26 points in the first half and St. George’s kept its perfect record intact with a 69-56 win over Pullman at the Freeman tournament.

The Dragons trailed by three at the half but went on a 23-9 in the third quarter to take control.

Race Martin and A.J. Miles combined for 30 points for the Greyhounds (4-1), who won last year’s State 2A title.

Erik Muelheims added 16 points and Dexter Sienko chipped in 15 for St. George’s. The defending State 2B champions improved to 9-0. The Dragons are averaging more than 68 points per game while holding their opponents to 44 points per contest.

Northwest Christian 68, Freeman 31: Chris Hartis scored 20 points and Ryan Ricks added 15 as the Crusaders (8-1) cruised past the Scotties (2-2) at the Freeman tournament.

Lake City 70, Pasco 47: Chuckie Adams scored 14 points in his first full game back from a wrist injury and the Timberwolves (6-1) routed the host Bulldogs. Lake City’s Jake Dahl added 11 points and 10 rebounds and Justin Pratt chipped in eight points, five assists and four steals.

Post Falls 63, Central Kitsap 51: Dalton Thompson led three players in double figures with 14 points as the Trojans (6-3) beat the Cougars at the Coeur d’Alene Inn-vitational at North Idaho College. Post Falls’ Max McCullough added 13 points and Corey Koski chipped in 10.

Coeur d’Alene 75, Kelowna Secondary 27: Justin Carpenter scored 14 points and grabbed six rebounds as the Vikings (6-1) overwhelmed Kelowna Secondary at the Coeur d’Alene Inn-vitational.

University 49, Battle Ground 40: Michael Isotalo scored 17 points to guide the Titans (4-2) past the Tigers (5-3) at the Yakima SunDome Shootout.

Lakeside (WA) 70, Capital 52: Dominique Watson scored 15 points and Cody Watkins added 11 as the Eagles (6-1) topped the Cougars at the Yakima SunDome Shootout.

West Valley 70, Timberlake 30: Jake Love scored 21 points and pulled down nine rebounds and Martin Herford added 19 points as the Eagles (6-1) routed the Tigers (0-7) at the West Valley tournament. Keegan Scott paced Timberlake with 11 points.

Riverside 58, Cascade 45: Dalton Rausch scored 27 points and pulled down nine rebounds and Andrew Kramer added 14 points and nine boards as the Rams (8-0) topped the Kodiaks at the Cascade tournament in Leavenworth.

Clarkston 76, Colfax 32: C.J. Johnson scored 23 points and the Bantams (6-0) routed the Bulldogs (4-3) at the Avista Tournament at Lewis-Clark State College in Lewiston.

Reardan 69, Almira/Coulee-Hartline 33: Tanner Peone led five players in double figures with 13 points as the Indians (3-5) eased past the Warriors (0-7) at the Reardan tournament. ACH’s Dallas Isaak tallied a game-high 22 points. Reardan plays Wellpinit today for the tourney title.

Wellpinit 68, Chewelah 55: Cedric Bowen scored 24 points and Brody Ford added 20 as the Redskins (6-1) used a perfect third quarter to get past the Cougars (1-6) at the Reardan tournament. Wellpinit made all 10 of its shots from the floor in the third quarter and outscored Chewelah 21-8.

Rosalia 74, Wilbur-Creston 67: A 37-point outburst by Craig Nelson helped the Spartans (2-3) recover from a slow start and beat the Wildcats (5-3) at the Davenport tournament. Rosalia fell behind by 13 points at the half, but a 30-11 third-quarter run put the Spartans in control. Colton Magers led Wilbur-Creston with 24 points. Rosalia and Odessa-Harrington play for the tourney title today.

Odessa-Harrington 44, Davenport 36: Sam Schafer had 15 points and seven steals, Carsen Weber added 14 points and Jacob DeWulf pulled down eight rebounds as the Titans (5-2) pulled away in the second half and topped the Gorillas (3-5) at the Davenport tournament.

Colville 50, Priest River 33: Lukyn Holling scored 18 points and Tevyn Holling added 12 as the Indians (4-2) shook off a sluggish start and surged past the host Spartans (1-7). Colville fell behind 12-4 in the first quarter, but outscored Priest River 46-21 the rest of the game.

Lind-Ritzville/Sprague 82, St. John-Endicott 14: Ryan Whitmore scored 13 points and Connor O’Neill and Tyler Frederick added 12 apiece as the Broncos (4-1) dismantled the Eagles (0-6) in St. John.

Orofino 53, Wallace 40: Scotty Lee led three Maniacs in double figures with 13 points and Orofino beat the host Miners. Gavin Rasmussen scored 16 points and Brock Arthur added 13 for Wallace.
