Sign-up extended for Oregon health insurance exchange

Associated Press

PORTLAND – Oregonians found eligible for coverage through the health insurance exchange will have an extra week to select a plan.

Cover Oregon’s acting director, Dr. Bruce Goldberg, told the exchange’s board members Friday that the deadline to enroll will be extended until Jan. 6.

Goldberg said coverage will be retroactive to Jan. 1. Qualified individuals will be able to get their January subsidy.

The previous enrollment deadline was Friday. The exchange has had to process all applications manually because the online portal still does not work.

Thus far, about 38,000 people have enrolled through Cover Oregon, 14,000 in private plans and 24,000 through the Oregon Health Plan, the state’s version of Medicaid.

For coverage starting in January, the first payment must be received by the selected insurance company by Jan. 15.
