UW stops MVSU, thanks to 18-0 run

Nigel Williams-Goss and Andrew Andrews each scored 18 points and helped spark a decisive second-half run as Washington’s men pulled away for a 95-80 nonconference victory over Mississippi Valley State Friday night in Seattle.

Washington (7-5) held the Delta Devils (3-8) scoreless for more than 5 minutes as the Huskies mounted an 18-0 run to break the game open in the second half.

After a layup from Jeffrey Simmons tied the game at 56 with 12:40 left to play, Washington began to pull away. Anthony McDonald finally halted the Huskies’ run with a layup at the 7:26 mark.

Perris Blackwell scored 17 points with 10 rebounds as Washington outrebounded the Delta Devils by a 51-29 margin.

North Idaho 73, Treasure Valley 51: Will Dorsey scored 20 points and Bryce Leavitt added 10 points, 13 rebounds and four assists as the Cardinals surged in the second half and beat the visiting Chukars in a nonconference game.

Braxton Tucker added 12 points and seven rebounds for NIC (14-3), which outscored Treasure Valley (7-2) 41-23 in the second half after leading by four at halftime.

The Chukars’ Christopher Willis had 10 points and 12 rebounds, but made 4 of 16 field goals.

Women

Jansen Butler made 4 of 5 3-pointers and scored 12 points to guide North Idaho past Tacoma (6-3) 72-45 at the Lower Columbia Holiday Classic in Longview, Wash. Katie King chipped in 11 points for the Cardinals (13-2).
