Woman killed by BNSF train near Sagle, Idaho

A woman was killed Tuesday afternoon when her car was struck by a BNSF train in Bonner County, a BNSF spokesman said. Gus Melonas said the woman, who wasn’t identified, pulled in front of the engine at a railroad crossing at Heath Lake Road, near Sagle, Idaho, at 4:22 p.m. The intersection was marked with railroad crossing signs and stop signs, and the train sounded its whistle, Melonas said. The train was traveling at 59 miles per hour. None of the train’s crew were injured in the crash. The train, which was traveling from Portland to Chicago, continued on its route about 8 p.m., Melonas said.
