Fog returns to forecast through Saturday

Calm, dry weather brings a return of the other Inland Northwest winter weather problem: fog. Poor visibility was reported this morning west and southwest of Spokane, but the fog was lifting by late morning today. The National Weather Service is calling for a return of patchy fog after 7 p.m. and continuing through the night until about 10 a.m. on Saturday. More fog is likely Saturday night. The series of low pressure systems that brought light snow earlier this week has been replaced by an area of higher air pressure, which leads to a pooling of colder air near the ground. The colder air becomes saturated with moisture, and the nighttime drop in temperatures causes that air to condense into fog. Highs today and Saturday should be in the upper 30s with lows in the upper 20s. The fog should dissipate on Sunday and Monday with the arrival of a light south wind on Sunday. The next chance of precipitation is on Tuesday and Wednesday, but any rain or snow will be light.
