Bulldogs win in overtime

Brandon Gfeller made four 3-pointers and finished with 32 points and Colfax beat Lind-Ritzville/Sprague 60-55 in overtime in a back-and-forth District 7 2B boys basketball tournament game Friday night at Mt. Spokane High School.

The Bulldogs (17-5) started the second quarter on a 16-0 run to take a 12-point lead. They led by nine points after the third quarter, but couldn’t hold the Broncos at bay.

Connor O’Neill scored 18 points and Ryan Whitmore added 16 points and eight rebounds for Lind-Ritzville/Sprague (16-6).

Colfax advances to the district title game against St. George’s tonight at 6 at Mead High School. The Broncos will play Liberty today at 6 at Mt. Spokane.

St. George’s 52, Northwest Christian 36: Dexter Sienko scored 20 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for the Dragons (21-1), who held the Crusaders (14-8) scoreless in the second quarter and cruised at Mt. Spokane. Jonathan Morris led Northwest Christian with 15 points. NWC will take on Reardan today at 4:30 at Mt. Spokane.

Liberty 60, Springdale 47: Ryan Thayer scored 23 points and Match Burnham added 17 as the Lancers (11-11) pulled away in the second half and beat the Chargers (0-22) at Mead. Callan Ward and Chase Fitzgerald scored a combined 24 points for Springdale, which was eliminated.

Reardan 51, Davenport 40: William Alsept scored 20 points and Nick Brockman added 12 as the Indians (7-15) stayed alive with a loser-out win over the Gorillas (10-12) at Mead. Shane Hopkins tallied a team-high 18 points for Davenport.

Northeast A

Chewelah 63, Newport 32: Lars Berger and Derek Smith combined for 30 points to guide the Cougars (17-3, 12-0) past the host Grizzlies (6-14, 3-9) and finish a perfect league season. Jeron Konkright tallied a team-high 15 points for Newport.

Lakeside 67, Kettle Falls 48: Conner Moffatt and Cody Watkins scored 15 points apiece and the Eagles (10-10, 9-3) used a dominant third-quarter run to get past the visiting Bulldogs (8-12, 2-10). Ryan Quigly added 12 points and eight rebounds for Lakeside, which outscored Kettle Falls 24-7 in the third quarter.

Freeman 42, Riverside 35: Jack Paukert scored 19 points as the Scotties (4-16, 4-8) edged the host Rams (5-14, 3-9). Dallas Shuler tallied a team-high 12 points for Riverside.

Northeast 1B North

Northport 58, Inchelium 23: Carl Case scored 18 points and Jeremiah Johnson added 12 points, 15 rebounds and seven assists as the Mustangs (10-9, 6-6) walloped the visiting Hornets (4-11, 3-9) in a regular-season finale. Inchelium was led by Quentin Holford’s 10 points.

Southeast 1B

Rosalia 90, St. John-Endicott 82 (OT): Craig Nelson scored 37 points and pulled down 13 rebounds as the Spartans (10-9, 8-7) beat the visiting Eagles (2-18, 2-14) in overtime. Nelson made a buzzer-beating 3-pointer to send the game into OT. Kaleb Simon led four St. John-Endicott players in double figures with 30 points.

Colton 66, Garfield-Palouse 47: Jake Straughan scored 31 points and the Wildcats (12-7, 11-4) beat the visiting Vikings. Garfield-Palouse (15-4, 11-3) was led by Jesse Lopez, who scored 10.

Liberty Christian 44, Tekoa-Oakesdale 33: The Patriots overcame a five-point first-quarter deficit and beat the host Nighthawks (3-16, 2-13). Max Mueller had 14 points and seven rebounds for Tekoa-Oakesdale.

Nonleague

Lakeland 68, Priest River 43: Scott Simpson and Tyrel Derrick scored 17 points apiece as the Hawks (8-10) routed the host Spartans (7-9). Simpson pulled down nine rebounds and Randy McCabe added 10 points for Lakeland, which led 21-12 after the first quarter. Priest River was led by R.C. Akre and Cam Riley, who had 11 points each.
