WSU women top Arizona

Lia Galdeira had 21 points and seven steals Sunday to lead Washington State to a 60-50 win over Arizona in Pac-12 women’s basketball at Tucson, Ariz.

Taylor Edmondson scored 10 points and Mariah Cooks grabbed 10 rebounds for the Cougars (8-13, 4-6 Pac-12), who have won three in a row. Shalie Dheensaw had six points, nine rebounds and five blocked shots for Washington State, which ran off 19 straight points in one stretch in the second half.

Davellyn White led the Wildcats (11-10, 3-7) with 17 points. Alli Gloyd had 13 points and 12 rebounds for Arizona.

The Wildcats led 27-26 at halftime, but lost their fifth in a row.

Washington 74, Arizona State 61: Talia Walton had 26 points and nine rebounds and Washington won its sixth in a row, defeating the Sun Devils at Tempe, Ariz.

Jazmine Davis had 16 points and seven assists for the Huskies (16-5, 8-2 Pac-12), Kristi Kingma scored 14 points and Mercedes Wetmore had 11 points.

Walton had six of the Huskies’ 15 3-pointers that helped them overcome the Sun Devils’ 55-29 rebounding advantage.

Washington trailed 37-29 early in the second half, but a 15-2 run put the Huskies ahead to stay. The biggest lead was the final score.

Janae Fulcher led Arizona State (11-11, 3-7) with 21 points.

Track and field

The University of Idaho track and field team wrapped up its third home meet in three days with two wins and two career-best marks at the Vandal Open.

The Vandals’ Sarah Nutsch won the women’s 20-point weight throw with a career-best toss of 55 feet, 5½ inches. Idaho’s Alaena Wilfong was third in the event at 47-3½, beating her career best by 4 feet.

UI’s Liga Velvere won the women’s 400 meters in 56.91 seconds.
