Sheriff’s deputy crashes car on way to scene

From staff reports
A Spokane County sheriff’s deputy was involved in a two-vehicle accident on his way to the scene of an officer-involved shooting this morning. Deputy Craig Chamberlin said Det. Andy Buell failed to stop at a blinking red light at Monroe Street and Second Avenue and T-boned the passenger side of a westbound minivan taxi cab. No one was injured, and the driver was the only person in the taxi. The cab was able to be driven from the scene, but the patrol car had to be towed. Chamberlin said the detective did not have his lights and sirens activated at the time of the crash, but was going the speed limit. Buell was able to return to work after the accident. “It will be forwarded to the administration to decide how they handle it as far as disciplinary or a ticket,” Chamberlin said.
