Obituary: Bowmer, Richard W.

Age 76

BOWMER, Richard W. (Age 76) Richard W. Bowmer died on February 3rd, 2013 at Sullivan Park Care Center after struggling with a type of myopathy for several years.

Richard was born in Tekoa, Washington on November 1st, 1936.

Richard is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Beverly; his three sons, Scott, Steven (YaYa) and Stewart (Mary Margaret); his sisters, Mary Mildes (Gary), Cecilia Larkin (Jim) of Spokane, WA and his brother, Dennis Bowmer (Jan) of Las Vegas, Nevada.

He thoroughly enjoyed his grandchildren Cara, Anthony, Alexandria and Pensa.

He also had numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Dick was preceded in death by his parents, Sallie and Wayne Bowmer of Tekoa, WA, along with many aunts, uncles and cousins.

In 1979, Richard retired after 24 years as a Chief Warrant Officer in the United States Coast Guard.

At that time they moved to Spokane, WA and made their home.

Dick decided to go back to school at Spokane Community college, received his AA and then worked at Washington Water Power (Avista) for 11 years.

Richard always chose to be a part of the community, volunteering with Little League baseball, The Boy Scouts of America, Spokane Valley Partners and for years he worked at The House of Charity.

During his retirement, Dick enjoyed playing cards, traveling and spending the winters in Arizona.

A Rosary Service will be held Saturday, February 9, 2013 at 10:45 AM, with a Funeral Mass directly following at 11 AM, both held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Spokane Valley, WA.

Burial will be held in the Spring at the Washington State Veterans Cemetery.
