Badgers rally, advance to state

Bonners Ferry outscored Priest River 15-5 in the fourth quarter to rally for a victory and a state berth Wednesday in Idaho 3A District I play at Lakeland.

Savannah Woods scored 14 points for the Badgers, and Melissa Trost scored 12 to lead the Trojans.

Kellogg 40, Timberlake 33: Taylor Sheppard scored 14 points as the Wildcats beat the Tigers. Jessica Norlander had 18 points for Timberlake.

• Kellogg and Priest River play tonight at 7 for a berth to Saturday’s state play-in game. Timberlake’s season is over.

Idaho 2A District I-II at Troy

Grangeville 35, Coeur d’Alene Charter 29: The Bulldogs beat the Panthers to earn a state berth. CdA Charter plays St. Maries tonight at 7:30, with the loser out and the winner advancing to a state play-in game Saturday.

District 9 1B

St. John-Endicott 57, Garfield-Palouse 24: Devan Bafus scored 17 points and Gretchan Van Lith added 15 points and seven rebounds as the Eagles routed the Vikings.

Rosalia 48, Touchet 41: Down two points entering the fourth quarter, the Spartans rallied and pulled away in the final two minutes to beat the Indians. Mackenzie Reddish led the way with 29 points, including 10 in the fourth quarter.

• SJE will visit Tekoa-Oakesdale and Rosalia visits Colton, with both games Friday at 6. Touchet and Gar-Pal will play loser-out games Tuesday at Colfax.

Boys basketball

District 7 1B

Odessa-Harrington 51, Republic 43: The Titans dominated the middle two quarters to defeat the Tigers. Stetson Sanford scored 10 points to lead Odessa-Harrington, and Cade Weber and Madison Charlton added nine each. Saxon Brown scored 19 to lead Republic.

Cusick 74, Valley Christian 60: Alec Bluff had 35 points and 11 rebounds as the Panthers avenged a 17-point loss earlier in the season to the Crusaders. Brad Gage and Grant Marchant scored 14 points each to lead VC, which was outrebounded 40-13.

Wellpinit 75, Northport 38: AJ Kieffer scored 21 points, 14 rebounds and eight blocks and James Best added 20 points as the Redskins routed the Mustangs.

Selkirk 60, Almira/Coulee-Hartline 54: The Warriors hit five 3-pointers in the fourth quarter to get within three points with less than a minute to play, but the Rangers thwarted the rally. Avery Miller scored 29 points and 10 rebounds to lead Selkirk. Thunder Wellhausen scored 20 points, 14 in the fourth quarter, for ACH.

• Odessa-Harrington plays Cusick and Republic faces Valley Christian at 6 p.m., and Wellpinit plays Selkirk and Northport plays ACH at 7:30; all games are Saturday at Deer Park.

Nonleague

Moscow 44, Coeur d’Alene 41: The Vikings missed a 3-pointer at the buzzer, giving the visiting Bears a victory.

Baseball

Gonzaga was picked to finish third in the West Coast Conference, according to a preseason poll of the nine conference coaches. They picked San Diego to win.

GU’s Clayton Eslick and Marco Gonzales were named to the All-WCC team. Gonzales, the reigning WCC pitcher of the year, was named as both a pitcher and infielder.

Track and field

Idaho’s Hannah Kiser was named Western Athletic Conference Women’s Track Athlete of the Week. Kiser posted a conference-leading time of 4 minutes, 45.1 seconds in the women’s mile run Friday at the Vandal Indoor.
