Traded Veteran goalie Tim Thomas, who has said he won’t play this season, was traded by the Boston Bruins to the New York Islanders on Thursday for a conditional second-round draft choice either next year or in 2015. Thomas chose to take this season off following the NHL lockout and was suspended by the Bruins after he didn’t report to training camp last month. The 38-year-old goalie is in the final season of a four-year deal that counts for $5 million against the salary cap.

Surgery Minnesota Vikings running back and NFL MVP Adrian Peterson had surgery for a sports hernia. The Vikings say they “expect a speedy recovery with no long-term concerns.” Peterson had the procedure in Philadelphia. Peterson, who also was named offensive player of the year after returning from a torn ACL to rush for 2,097 yards, was bothered by an abdominal injury for the last month of the season.

Sued A Dallas promotions company sued Lance Armstrong, demanding he repay $12 million in bonuses and fees it paid him for winning the Tour de France. SCA Promotions had tried in a 2005 legal dispute over the bonuses to prove Armstrong cheated to win before it ultimately settled and paid him. Now, the company contends in its lawsuit, Armstrong and agent Bill Stapleton lied and conspired to cheat SCA out of millions.

Injured No. 2 Florida will be without forward Will Yeguete for at least the rest of the regular season following knee surgery. Yeguete will have arthroscopic surgery today to remove loose bodies. Yeguete has dealt with tendinitis all season, but basketball coach Billy Donovan says his knee had “significant swelling” in recent weeks.

Declined The Buffalo Bills are cutting ties with receiver Donald Jones by allowing him to become a free agent after declining to tender the third-year player a contract offer.

Agreed For the 22nd straight year, the Cleveland Indians stayed out of salary arbitration by agreeing to a two-year, $6 million contract with infielder Mike Aviles on. The deal includes a club option for 2015.
