Obituary: Bippes, Laverne “Monty”

Age 84

BIPPES, Laverne “Monty” Monty went to be with our Lord on February 7, 2013.

Born August 19, 1928, in Ellensburg, Washington.

He later moved to Seltice, near Tekoa, WA with his father John Conrad Bippes, and stepmother Marie (Fuchs) Bippes.

A graduate of Tekoa High School, he served his country in the Military with the Army during the end of the Korean war, attended Gonzaga University and earned a Doctorate in Mathematics.

Spent twenty years as a teacher before starting his own Non-Profit program for students who dropped out of formal education.

His legacy can be found in this one action.

He was a precinct committeeman, and active with the Republican Party.

Was active with jail ministries, and numerous other community organizations, with emphasis on “Right to Life”, his Catholic faith, and his actions, reflected this daily.

A musician’s, musician, “Monty” loved to play and inspire others with his keyboard.

He was married 48 years, to the love of his life, Rosemary Devlin, whom he met at a church dance.

They had two children.

He is survived by his daughter, Mercedes (Merry Lynn) Bippes; two sisters Shirley (Chavez) Bippes, and husband Robert, Gloria (Albrecht) Bippes; one brother, Jack Bippes and wife Ann; also, numerous cousins, nieces, nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife Rosemary (Devlin) Bippes, and son Monty Joseph, along with brother Clark Bippes.

In addition, a special thanks to Carmen Rasmussen for her love and care of Monty.

The Vigil/Rosary service will be held 7pm, Friday, February 15th, 2013, with viewing from Noon to 7pm, at Hennessey Funeral Home 2203 N. Division, and the Funeral Mass Saturday, 1pm, February 16th, 2013 at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, 330 E. Boone on the Gonzaga campus.
