Fan violence halts Greek basketball final

The Greek basketball cup final between fierce rivals Olympiakos and Panathinaikos in Athens was suspended because of fan violence Sunday. Riot police intervened, at one point using stun grenades. After an incident between two players, Olympiakos fans threw a large stone that injured the hand of Panathinaikos’ Greek-American guard Mike Bramos. Panathinaikos fans reacted, prompting riot police to act. Authorities had allowed only 900 fans from each team to attend the game in the 7,000-seat arena. They were placed on opposite sides and separated by hundreds of riot police. Authorities say the final will resume once the stands are evacuated. – AP
