Fresh off a game against the Western Hockey League’s second-most penalized team, the Spokane Chiefs will meet the team at No. 1 tonight.
Spokane (32-22-2-0) will host the Calgary Hitmen (37-16-1-3) at 7:05 at the Arena in the lone matchup of the season between the teams. Calgary leads the WHL with 1,096 penalty minutes, 40 more than Victoria, which defeated Spokane 5-3 on Sunday.
Four of the last six Chiefs-Hitmen games have gone into overtime. Calgary edged Spokane 3-2 in overtime last season.
“Our guys are given a pregame scouting report and we give them a video report on them, so they’ll be well-schooled on what to expect,” Chiefs coach Don Nachbaur said.
Spokane’s regular season is down to 16 games, split evenly between home and away. The Chiefs’ next home game will be Feb. 22 against the Eastern Conference’s top team, Edmonton.
