Need ideas for your Valentine? You’re welcome!

Coeur d’Alene Chocolate Co. makes heart-shaped truffles in habanero raspberry, huckleberry and raspberry.

There’s still time to spice up your holiday, or treat your little sweethearts to some whimsical chocolates for Valentine’s Day. We dropped in on several local stores and a sampling of treats caught our eye.

Hot, hot, hot!

Coeur d’Alene Chocolates offers some treats for spice lovers. Consider the habanero caramels or habanero raspberry truffles for those who like it hot. They have also experimented with ghost pepper infused goodies for chocolate lovers with a serious spice addiction. Cd’A Chocolates offers a Valentine’s truffle assortment in a heart-shaped box for $34. Find stores at 3650 N. Government Way, Suite M; (208) 667-6094 or 412 E. Sherman Ave., Suite 105, in Coeur d’Alene; (208) 664-4294, www.cdachocolates.com.

Bug love

At Bloem Chocolate in River Park Square, 808 W. Main Ave., there are Moonstruck Chocolate Co. truffles shaped like strawberries, hearts and little ladybugs. The strawberry or raspberry Love Bug truffles are especially cute. A box of eight truffles rang up at about $24. Bloem’s chocolate parent company, Boehm’s of Issaquah, Wash., also makes a heart-shaped chocolate box that can be filled with goodies. The store is open 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. weekdays, www.chocolates-flowers.com.

Taste of Mount Spokane

My sweetheart loved the Mount Spokane treat from Halletts Handmade Chocolates. The substantial triangle of coconut and nougat is dipped in milk chocolate. They also offer popular gray sea salt and huckleberry caramels. The Mount Spokane, four caramels and an iced tea at the coffee bar in the Riverwalk location cost less than $7.50. There are two Halletts locations: 1419 E. Holyoke Ave. is open 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. or 1003 E. Trent Ave., 7 a.m. to 8 p.m., www.hallettschocolates.com.

Champagne, huckleberry truffles

At Spokandy, the glittering sugar atop the champagne or huckleberry truffles ($1.50 each) drew our attention. We also picked up a 4-piece box of caramels finished with heart-shaped sprinkles for $4.99.

The factory, 1412 W. Third Ave., is open to the public 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekdays, www.spokandy.com.
