Bertaggia nets two in return to Chiefs lineup

Alessio Bertaggia scored twice in his first game back since a Jan. 18 injury and Spokane beat Everett 6-3 in Western Hockey League play in Everett on Friday night. The Chiefs scored three goals in the first period to gain the advantage. Cole Wedman opened the scoring at 7:18 of the first period. Bertaggia added a power-play goal three minutes later to put Spokane ahead 2-0. Following a goal by the Silvertips’ Kohl Bauml, Mitch Holmberg scored Spokane’s third goal in the first period. Dylan Walchuk scored a short-handed goal at 13:47 of the second period to give the Chiefs a 4-1 advantage. Spokane’s Mikulas Rimmel scored in the third period before Bertaggia capped the scoring with an empty-netter in the final minute. The Chiefs outshot 17-8 in the first period and had a 39-27 advantage in total shots. Eric Williams made 24 saves to earn the win. Spokane leads the season-series with Everett 4-2. It was the first road win by either team in their previous five meetings this season. The Chiefs moved to fourth place in the WHL’s Western Conference, one point ahead of Victoria.
