Galdeira’s bucket lifts WSU women to win over OSU

Lia Galdeira scored 17 points, including a basket with 3 seconds to play, and Washington State withstood a late Oregon State rally to win 51-49 Friday night in a Pac-12 basketball game at Corvallis.

The Cougars (9-14, 5-7) led by 16 points early in the second half, and 49-40 with less than 2 minutes to play. But the Beavers’ Jamie Weisner made a 3-pointer and then Deven Hunter scored consecutive baskets, her only points of the night, to make it 49-47.

Weisner (Clarkston HS) stole the ball and was fouled. She missed the front end of the one-and-one, but grabbed the rebound and put it back in to tie it at 49 with 32 seconds to go before Galdeira’s winning basket.

Sage Romberg added 13 points and six rebounds for the Cougars. Weisner finished with 11 points and Samantha Siegner grabbed 10 rebounds for the Beavers (9-15, 3-9), who have lost four in a row.

Whitworth 69, Linfield 53: Senior Emily Travis scored 14 of her career-high 21 points in the second half to lead the Pirates past the Wildcats in a Northwest Conference game in McMinnville, Ore.

Freshman K.C. McConnell added 10 points for the Pirates (18-6, 11-4), who made 6 of 8 3-pointers in the first half.

Whitworth won the rebounding battle 43-38 and turned 15 offensive boards into 14 second-chance points.

Tyra Barawis had 11 points and eight rebounds for Linfield (2-18, 1-13).

The Pirates close out the regular season today at Willamette.

Washington 97, Oregon 71: Kristi Kingma scored a career-high 35 points, setting a Pac-12 regular-season record for 3-pointers in a game, and the Huskies (18-6, 9-3) cruised to a win over the Ducks (3-22, 1-12) in Eugene.

Kingma was 11 for 17 from 3-point range for Washington, which also set a Pac-12 mark for long-range shooting with 18. The redshirt senior’s previous career high in scoring was 30 points and she was one short of tying the NCAA 3-point record.
