Shadle, University girls play in loser-out game

Kaycee Hert had 15 points, eight steals and five assists and Shadle Park kept its season alive with a 65-38 rout of Kennewick in a 3A subregional girls basketball tournament game Friday night at Shadle Park.

The Highlanders will play at University today at 5 p.m. in a loser-out contest. The winner advances to the round of 16 and the start of the state tournament.

Winter Hayes added 12 points and three assists and Amanda Konynenbelt chipped in nine points, seven steals and three assists for Shadle Park.

The Highlanders (13-9) held the Lions to four points in the second quarter with an aggressive, full-court pressure defense.

Kamiakin 62, University 52: The Braves made 16 of 22 fourth-quarter free throws and beat the Titans in Kennewick.

Sira Toure and Lindsey Schauble scored 16 points apiece to lead the Braves, who advanced to the round of 16.

Kamiakin jumped ahead by 10 points in the first quarter. University (12-10) cut the deficit to one at the end of the third quarter, but the Braves won it at the line in the fourth.

Kayleigh Valley led the Titans with 25 points and 15 rebounds.

Today’s game will be the third this season between the teams. University beat Shadle Park both times in the regular season – including a 71-69 win on Feb. 7 at University.
