City fire crews extinguish north Spokane attic fire

Second north Spokane fire of the weekend

Spokane firefighters Sunday afternoon had no trouble handling a house fire at 1712 E. Sharp, sending four engines and a rescue vehicle to the north Spokane home. Fire crews found smoke coming from an attic fire at the house. In quick order firefighters opened the roof and extinguished the fire, according to a press release. Cause of the fire is still under investigation. It’s not clear if the house was occupied at the time. Damage was less than $4,000, according to a fire department release. Sunday’s was the second response in north Spokane over the weekend. Early on Saturday, Spokane fire crews were called out and contained a garage fire at 1518 E. Liberty. The fire call came in at 12:15 a.m., and six city fire crews with 19 firefighters responded. No injuries were reported. A fire department release said the detached garage was fully engulfed within 30 minutes. Fire crews kept the blaze confined to that structure, preventing further damage. Damage to the garage is estimated at $20,000. No cause has been identified as of Sunday afternoon.
