I’m pleased to find out that the Big Sky Conference is perusing the University of Idaho as a member. This move will truly benefit the Big Sky as Idaho will be member No. 12, thus creating what our new and improved conference needs in football: divisional alignment.
Not only does this bring out the best in competition, this produces fantastic matchups for the fans. Not only will more fans pay attention to the games, the revenues the schools could make would be monumental.
An “East-West” or “North-South” alignment would make the most sense. We would be the only conference in the FCS to have divisions, and send its undisputed champion (and possibly runner-up as well) to the FCS playoffs.
It seems like the story of “lowly ol’ Idaho” limping into a lower division of football can turn into a great tale of how the Big Sky Conference becomes a juggernaut in midmajor collegiate athletics.
