Whitworth takes win in regular-season finale

Colton McCargar made 7 of 10 shots, including 3 of 5 from beyond the arc, and scored a career-high 20 points as Whitworth ended the regular season with an 86-67 Northwest Conference men’s basketball win over Willamette on Saturday in Salem.

Dustin McConnell added 15 points and six assists for the hot-shooting Pirates (22-3, 12-2), who made 54.4 percent of their field-goal attempts.

Mack Larkin and Taylor Farnsworth each chipped in 12 points for Whitworth.

The Bearcats (7-18, 4-12) were led by Terrell Malley’s game-high 31 points.

Willamette ended its season on an eight-game losing streak.

Whitworth, the conference champions, will host a NWC tourney semifinal against No. 4 seed Lewis & Clark on Thursday at 7 p.m.

CC Spokane 103, Columbia Basin 65: Brady Bagby led six players in double figures with 17 points and the Sasquatch (18-8, 9-4) routed the Hawks (1-22, 0-13) in an NWAACC game in Pasco.

CCS made 19 of 40 shots in the first half – including 12 of 13 free throws – and built a 57-30 lead.

Jarid Downey hit five 3-pointers and scored 15 points for CCS.

Mitch Vanderwiel and Kwinn Hanson added 14 points apiece for the Sasquatch.
