North Side house fire quickly doused

Spokane firefighters Sunday afternoon had no trouble handling a house fire at 1712 E. Sharp Ave.

Fire crews found smoke coming from an attic fire at the house in north Spokane. In quick order firefighters opened the roof and extinguished the fire, according to a news release.

The cause was still under investigation. It wasn’t clear if the house was occupied at the time.

Damage was less than $4,000, according to the fire department release.

Sunday’s fire was the second response in north Spokane over the weekend. Early on Saturday, Spokane fire crews were called out and contained a garage fire at 1518 E. Liberty Ave.

The fire call came in at 12:15 a.m., and no injuries were reported. A release said the detached garage was fully engulfed within 30 minutes.

Fire crews kept the blaze confined to that structure, preventing further damage. Damage to the garage is estimated at $20,000. No cause had been identified.
