Crusaders boys earn No. 3 seed

Austin Friedly hit a 15-footer in the final minute, and Nick Kiourkas added two free throws as Northwest Christian bested Lind-Ritzville/Sprague 78-73 in overtime on Monday night at Whitman College to claim the No. 3 seed in the 2B Subregional boys basketball tournament.

NWC (18-10) will play Riverside Christian at Sunnyside on Saturday when the round of 16 begins the State 2B tournament. As the subregional No. 4 seed, LRS (20-8) plays Bear Creek at Mountlake Terrace.

Friedly finished with 20 points and Kiourkas 19.

Dylan Hartz rallied LRS in the fourth quarter to force OT, hitting four of his five 3-pointers and 14 of his game-high 21 points.

Idaho 2A District I-II

St. Maries and Grangeville will meet in a winners-bracket game after collecting first-round wins at Troy.

Orofino and Coeur d’Alene Charter (18-5), which lost 58-51 to Grangeville, will play a loser-out game.

St. Maries 55, Orofino 32: Rhett Ryle hit 4 of 6 3-pointers in a 20-point game as the Lumberjacks (13-8) won. Warren Joiner added 16 points and seven rebounds for the ’Jacks.

Idaho 3A District I

Timberlake and Priest River will play for the district championship and a state berth on Wednesday at Lakeland after winning first-round games.

Bonners Ferry and Kellogg will meet in a loser-out game on Wednesday.

Timberlake 72, Bonners Ferry 58: The Tigers (17-3) hit 10 of 12 free throws in the fourth quarter to hold off the Badgers (5-14), who had clawed within two points. Kegan Scott went 6-for-6 from the line in the period.

John Thompson had 26 points and 14 rebounds for Timberlake. Cameron Woods scored 16 for BF.

Priest River 56, Kellogg 47: The Spartans (11-9), led by Dalton Sommer’s game-high 23-points, opened a 13-point lead at halftime and held off the Wildcats (12-9). Cody Seaton led Kellogg with 12 points.

Idaho 1A Division I

Lakeside 42, Wallace 36: The Knights (12-10) got 14 points apiece from Doug Schatz (who added 10 rebounds) and Leighton Boyd in grabbing a 1-0 lead in the best-of-3 series at Lake City. Game 2 is Wednesday.

John Dellinger had 13 points and 10 rebounds for the Miners (11-11).

Girls

2B Subregional

Colfax 41, DeSales 22: The Bulldogs (23-5) took advantage of the error-prone Irish – 30 turnovers, 21-percent shooting – to claim the No. 3 seed at Whitman College to the State 2B round of 16.

Colfax, led by Amelie Bruya’s 12 points and eight points, and seven rebounds and four steals from Nicole Sheer, play White Swan at Sunnyside on Friday. DeSales plays Darrington at Mount Lake Terrace on Friday.
