Whitworth enters the Northwest Conference men’s basketball tournament ranked once again in the NCAA Division III Top 10, entering the postseason at No. 8.
The Pirates had a 20-game win streak snapped with back-to-back losses to Whitman and George Fox, prompting a fall of nine spots in last week’s D3Hoops.com Top 25 poll, from a season-high ranking of third. This week, the Bucs rebounded four spots after sweeping a pair of games in Oregon.
The No. 1 NWC tournament seed after capturing a fourth consecutive conference championship, Whitworth hosts Lewis & Clark in a tournament semifinal game Thursday at 7 p.m. in the Fieldhouse. George Fox plays second-seeded Whitman at the same time in Walla Walla, with the winners set to face each other Saturday on the home court of the higher seed.
The Pirates finished the regular season with a record of 22-3.
Washington 49, Oregon St. 44: Jazmine Davis scored 20 points and Aminah Williams made a go-ahead 3-pointer with 1:37 remaining to help the Huskies defeat the Beavers in Corvallis, Ore.
The Huskies (19-6, 11-3 Pac-12) scored the final six points. After Williams’ 3, Davis made a pair of free throws with 14 seconds to play and Kristi Kingma added another free throw with 2 seconds left.
Jamie Weisner (Clarkston) led the Beavers (9-17, 3-11) with 22 points. Her 3-pointer put Oregon State in front 44-43 with just under 2 minutes to play. OSU led 22-18 at the half.
