Obituary: Mccoy, Wes

McCoy, Wes Wes “Bud” McCoy was a classic Irishman…fair of skin, blue of eye…and red of nose, hot-tempered, fun loving and quick with a raunchy joke.

He grew up on a ranch in Oldtown, Idaho - wrangling, drinking and causing his parents gray hairs.

He joined the U.S. Navy and served our country during Vietnam.

He returned to marry Mom on November 6, 1965, and devoted himself to her.

Together, they enjoyed and tolerated the two of us…and we thrived!

We learned great life lessons from him: 1.

If you’re going to sneak alcohol, don’t water down the bourbon.

2.

When asked who put the hole in the bathroom door, scraped the car with their handle bars, or turned the thermostat to 75… “I don’t know” is not an acceptable answer.

We’re pretty sure “I don’t know” was the third kid in the family and responsible for everything.

Dad and Mom moved to Lewiston in 1985 when the Kaman Corporation store was opened.

He began his career with Kaman in 1966, and made many lifelong friends there, as he did with customers, to whom he liked to consider himself an integral part of the solution to any problem.

He loved the time spent with his family in Lewiston.

He was able to hunt and fish with Mac.

It took five years, in the freezing cold, to catch his first, and only, steelhead, a fish that grew bigger and trickier with each passing year- a real testament to his Irish heritage.

Mom and Jacqui learned to golf with him in Lewiston.

He was quick with a word of advice, though he rarely followed it himself.

He had someone new to pick on when daughter-in-law, Brook, and son-in-law, Mark, joined the family.

He was proud as a peacock with grandchildren, Ryan and Cassidy.

Though we teased him over it, at 5 a.m. each day he would head off to what we called the “coffee clutch”.

He cherished his time with his friends there, and hitting the links with Frank and Sam whenever he could.

Sadly, he lost his two-year battle with cancer on February 8, 2013.

He is survived by wife, Sharon; daughter and son-in-law, Jacqui and Mark; son and daughter-in-law, Wesley Jr. and Brook; and grandchildren, Ryan and Cassidy; sister, Betty Lokosh; brother, Bill McCoy; niece, Dana and sons; and aunt, Marion and many cousins.

We will be celebrating his life from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday, March 2, with an Irish wake at the Quality Inn in Clarkston.

We hope to see you there, Mac and Jacqui.
