Obituary: Schwab, Dorothy Eleanor (Newman)

Age 88

SCHWAB, Dorothy Eleanor (Newman) Daughter of Erbine and Lucy Newman, was born on December 26, 1924 in Yakima, Washington and was raised in the apple orchards of Naches Heights with brothers Frank (Mickie) and Dave (Joanne).

Dorothy trained for the nursing profession at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Yakima and was a cadet nurse in Palo Alto on the psychiatric ward treating war veterans as WW2 was ending.

She married (Joe Schwab), moved to Spokane, and started her nursing career at Sacred Heart Hospital.

After raising six children- Joe (Carolyn), Linda, Steve (Jeanette), Doug (Lori), Rick, and Julie Hoseid (Jerry), she resumed her nursing career as a pediatric nurse at Holy Family Hospital.

Dorothy has 13 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.

She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend to many.

Dorothy passed away on February 19, 2013 in Spokane.

We celebrate her life.

There will be a viewing at Hennessey Funeral Home, Saturday, February 23, from 11:00-12:00, a memorial service at 12:00, Sr. Mary Ann Farley officiating, followed by a burial at Holy Cross Cemetery.

A Celebration of Life is to be arranged at a later date.
