WINTERS, Robert J.

2/27/1924 - 2/19/2013 Dad was born in St. Paul, Minnesota to Joseph and Alice Winters.

He grew up with his older sister Deloris.

He enjoyed sports, playing baseball in the summer and hockey in the winter.

He enlisted in the Marines when he was 17.

He served his country in the Pacific during WWII.

Dad was a proud Marine.

“Once a Marine - Always a Marine”.

His three years in the service forever shaped his life.

He was wounded on Iwo Jima on February 25, 1945 just before his 21st birthday.

He was sent to Camp Adair in Oregon for his treatment and rehab.

This is where he met the love of his life Jeanne Brooks.

Jeanne was volunteering at the USO Club.

They were married six months later in October 1945.

They settled in Spokane and raised five children.

He worked for the government, retiring in 1974 at the age of 50.

Dad enjoyed his trips with mom to San Francisco and Nevada.

He is survived by his wife Jeanne of 67 years, five children: John (Toni), Dick (Lois), Jim (Debbie), Dave (Kathy) and Sue Humphries (Steve), ten grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held Friday, March 1, 2013, 12 o’clock noon at Heritage Funeral Home, 508 N. Government Way.
