Proud of teacher

Go Riverside. What an exceptional educator Mindy Shaw must be (Feb. 10). To not only strive to give children a good education, but also to try and find the means to allow them to be competitive in a world of ever-changing technology by entering the Great American Financial Resources Classroom Makeover Contest.

People everywhere are getting behind Shaw and supporting her and her school. Don’t take my word for it, go on Facebook and review all of the positive feedback.

Just think what $10,000 will do for a computer lab. There is never enough money to go around in our schools. Things are always being cut. Teachers often give of their own funds to accomplish a goal.

According to a 2010 survey by the National School Supply & Equipment Association, the average teacher spends a total of $398 on school supplies and an additional $538 on educational materials.

I am so proud of you, Shaw! I am sure that all of the teachers and the administrators in the Riverside School District are proud of you as well. Congratulations.
