County names deputies involved in jail death

The Spokane County Sheriff’s Office has named the six deputies who were involved in struggle Sunday morning with a man who later died in a restraint chair in the booking area of the Spokane County Jail. Christopher J. Parker, 33, was pronounced dead Sunday about two hours after calling 911 to say he was diabetic and had ingested methamphetamine. A Spokane police officer called Spokane Fire Department paramedics, who checked on Parker and cleared him to be transported to the jail on an outstanding warrant. While there, investigators said, Parker became uncooperative and several corrections deputies used force and shocked Parker with a Taser. They placed him in a restraint chair, where they later noticed he had stopped breathing. The involved deputies are Brad Dahlin, William Miller, Sandy Rief, Timothy Wirun, Alfred Torres and Kenneth Kuiper, Sheriff’s Office spokesman Deputy Mark Gregory said in a news release. He gave no further information on the investigation into the death, which is being led by the Washington State Patrol.
