Signed The Oklahoma City Thunder signed veteran Derek Fisher on Monday, filling an opening for a third point guard that was created when Eric Maynor was traded to Portland. Fisher joins Oklahoma City for the stretch run for the second straight season. He played in 20 regular-season games and then all 20 playoff games last season. Fisher won five NBA championships with the Los Angeles Lakers before getting traded to Houston last season.
• British Olympian Johannah Leedham has signed to play with the WNBA’s Connecticut Sun. The team, which drafted Leedham almost three years ago, did not disclose details of the rookie contract. The 5-foot-10 Leedham led the British Olympic team, averaging 16.2 points and 5.2 rebounds, during the 2012 Summer Games in London. She also has played professionally in Poland and Australia.
Released The Philadelphia Eagles have released veteran defensive tackles Cullen Jenkins and Mike Patterson. Jenkins signed a five-year, $30 million contract with the Eagles in 2011 and started every game the last two seasons. He was due to make $5.5 million this season, but rebuilding Philadelphia cut the 32-year-old on Monday. Patterson, the team’s longest-tenured player, spent eight seasons with the Eagles.
Suspended San Jose Sharks forward Ryan Clowe has been suspended two games without pay by the NHL for instigating a fight late in Friday night’s 2-1 loss to Chicago. Clowe was assessed a minor penalty for roughing and a game misconduct for leaving the bench on an illegal line change to start a fight with Blackhawks forward Andrew Shaw with 8.4 seconds left in regulation – an infraction that calls for a 10-game suspension. But upon review the line change was deemed legal.
Recovering Winnipeg Jets defenseman Zach Redmond is in good spirits at a Raleigh, N.C., hospital as he recovers from surgery to repair a skate cut to his right thigh. The 24-year-old rookie suffered a gash to his right femoral artery and vein during a practice Thursday. His family released a statement Monday thanking the Jets’ training staff and players for their quick action, which the Redmonds say saved his life.
