Obituary: Arthur, Marlene

Age 78

ARTHUR, Marlene She was born Donna Marlene Clem on July 3, 1934, in Spokane, WA to Ernest and Gertrude Clem, and passed away on February 8, 2013, in Puyallup.

Marlene graduated from Lewis and Clark High School.

She attended Whitworth College before marrying Walter Arthur in 1953 and immediately moving to Nebraska for nine years.

They moved to Washington in 1963, and became lifelong residents of Puyallup soon thereafter.

She earned her BA from the University of Puget Sound while raising her four children.

She was active in PEO Puyallup Chapter, American Association of University Women, Pierce County Medical Auxiliary, Karshner Ortho-pedic Guild, and Tahoma Audubon Society.

She participated in many book clubs and was a fantastic bridge player.

Her bright smile and kind nature will be missed by all her family and numerous friends.

She was preceded in death by her oldest daughter Lori Arthur-Morman.

She is survived by her loving husband of 59 years Walt Arthur, daughters Lynn Arthur (Galen) and Michelle Ellingsen (Rick), son Marty Arthur, seven grandchildren, brother Bill Clem, sisters Maxine Smick and Kathy Danly, and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to give special thanks to the staff of Young At Heart for their loving care of Marlene during her last year.

A memorial service will be at First Presbyterian Church, 412 W. Pioneer, Puyallup, at 1:30 pm on March 9, 2013.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Marlene’s name to PEO Chapter AN Scholarships or First Presbyterian Church of Puyallup Deacons Fund.
