He was born on homestead property near Linden in the White Mountains of Arizona on November 10, 1926.
His family moved to Porterville, CA, lived on a farm and went to a school with one teacher for all 8 grades.
After high school he attended Biola College in Los Angeles where he met his wife, Katharine Rogalsky.
They were married on October 21, 1949.
His schooling continued at California Baptist College, then at Grace Seminary in Indiana with plans to be a missionary in India.
He and Katharine were missionaries to Navaho Indians in New Mexico, starting a medical clinic helping the people and delivering babies.
In 1954, Hubert began a career working at Sears that lasted until retirement in 1990.
Hubert loved to play all sorts of games, organized a weekly game of golf, travelled throughout the world with Katharine and enjoyed retirement.
He loved to meet people, share a meal, and beat them in a game around the table.
He was involved in the churches he attended, leading Bible studies and serving on elder boards.
A highlight for him was spending time with his children, grandkids and great-grandchildren.
Hubert was preceded in death by his wife Katharine and is survived by his three children; Dave Sylvester, Jon Sylvester and Judy Schwab along with his eight grandkids and six great-grandchildren.
