She was born in Spokane on October 13, 1927 to Ely Baertlein and Stella Lamar.
During her childhood the family lived throughout Washington, Oregon, and California, and she and her brother Edward “Sonny” attended a number of schools.
Lois spent her freshman year of high school at Holy Names Academy in Spokane, and upon graduating from Petaluma High School in California, returned to Spokane to enroll in the nursing program at Sacred Heart Hospital.
She graduated from there in 1947.
Lois married her husband of 61 years, Ivan “Ed” Thomas in 1951, and settled in Spokane where they raised their five children: Colleen, Brian, Leslye, Peter, and Tim.
She worked her entire career at Sacred Heart Medical Center as both an Emergency Department RN and later in the Neo-natal ICU.
She was an active parishioner at St. Charles Parish as a school parent, member of the Altar Society, and later as an office volunteer.
After retiring in the early 1990s Ed and Lois traveled extensively, volunteered for Meals On Wheels, and devoted their time and love to their nine grandchildren: Sean, Katie Rose, Shannon, Jordan, Nicholas, Meagan, Hayden, Erin, Andrew, and two great-grandsons Jasper and Eli.
She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews, and is preceded in death by her great-grandson Liam.
She will be truly missed by all her family.
