COMING UP: Tonight at San Jose State, 7; Saturday at Utah State, 6:05

OUTLOOK: Two weeks ago Don Verlin pointed out that it’s usually around the holiday break that his Idaho teams start to find a new gear. Sure enough, the Vandals went toe-to-toe with a solid Boise State team before losing on Dec. 20 and roared back to beat Seattle U to start the WAC season. Next comes a tricky two-game road swing at San Jose State and 11-1 Utah State. SJSU (7-5, 2-0) played No. 6 Kansas tough on the road and has the nation’s seventh-leading scorer in James Kinney (21.5 points per game). Utah State’s only loss came in its second game of the season at St. Mary’s.
