Age 87

RUDDELL, Cathryn Joann (Age 87) With family surrounding her, our wonderful wife, mother, and grandma passed away on Thursday, December 27th, 2012 at her long-time home in Greenacres, Washington.

Joann was born January 21, 1925 in Scotia, California.

Her family moved frequently during her childhood and she graduated from Grand Coulee High School in 1942.

Joann met Daniel L. Ruddell in the Spokane Valley and they married August 30, 1947.

They celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary this past year.

Joann worked as a bookkeeper for over thirty years for Peirone Produce Company in Spokane, retiring in 1990.

She enjoyed bowling and golfing, and made lifelong friends while working as the league secretary for both recreational activities.

Mom was also an avid gardener and truly loved her flowers and rose garden.

Her greatest joy was spending time with her family at the ranch, and more recently, enjoying the company of, and watching her great-grandchildren play in the yard.

She was a kind-hearted lady who touched many lives and was loved by all.

Joann will be dearly missed by her husband Dan; her loving children, George Ruddell (Donna), Danny Ruddell, and Cathy Sturman; grandchildren, David Ruddell (Jaime), Brian Ruddell (Heather), Kendra Oliphant, Justine and Maria Ruddell, Tyler and Travis Sturman, and her great-grandchildren, Abby Ruddell, Joseph, Sophia, and Nicholas Oliphant.

She also leaves behind her siblings Carol Poole (husband Ken), Don Gorle (wife DeeAnn), her brother-in-law Robert Skredsvig, and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her mother, Edna Gorle, her stepfather Henry Gorle, and her sisters Sharon Gorle and Jean Skredsvig.

The family would like to thank Hospice of Spokane - Tracy, Carlahn, and Maggie, and extend a special thank you to her sister Carol Poole for all of her care and attention to mom during her final days.

A celebration of Joann’s life will be held for family and friends in the spring of 2013.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made in Joann’s name to Hospice of Spokane, 121 S. Arthur Street, Spokane WA 99201, or to the American Cancer Society.
